Imagine life without excuses June 23, 2009

Recently I have been giving my power away to a whole host of excuses for not getting on with my life and projects.  As a result I have made a study into this to begin to undo these habits one by one.

All excuses are mental habit patterns formed in the subconscious. When they are given power by our our thinking they grow and grow and then these very excuses can take us out in whatever project we care to start.

As a result we see life as a struggle and see the Universe as against us as opposed to for us. What really is happening is that the thinking habits which manifest in the form of excuses are the things against us and so we struggle.

Life is 100% for each of us and this is an important insight to begin the excuses clearing process.

Here are a few excuses…

I am too old, I have left it too late, the economy is bad and so there are no opportunities out there, I always seem to be unlucky, this is too difficult, it will take me too much time and so on.

Now Think of one excuse you have been putting up with.

What would life be like if that excuses is no longer a part of your life?

How would you feel if this excuse was no longer in your life?

What options lay before you as you imagine you are free of this excuse?

Perhaps you can ponder these questions and write down some thoughts around imagining the excuse you have is no longer operating and you can see with new eyes.

Begin to imagine life without excuses and enjoy the ride.

Are you willing to change? June 18, 2009

Are you willing to change? When I am confronted with this question my initial answer is “sure”, however, when I dig a little deeper I realise that there are excuses and resistance running wild that need to be identified and released.

Whether it is a job change, a health change, a relationship or a change in my finances or just the decision to take full responsibility for my circumstances it all  starts with a willingness to change.

I may not be ready to change something or I may have resistance to change an aspect of my life. However, for any change to take place there has to be a willingness to take back any blame for what may or may not have happened and that also means not blaming oneself.

For example,  I made  a property investment a few years ago and soon after spent alot of time blaming myself and the real estate agent for advising me in the wrong way as the property prices did not go up as I expected.  However, as soon as I gave up the blame game and took full responsibility for this and was willing to see this differently things shifted and within a couple of months I sold the property  in spite of the housing market down turn.

It started with a willingeness to change and take responsibility and from there my energy shifted in a supportive and positive way. My behaviour and actions reflected in this decision.

This whole process can start by making a sincere declaration such as “I am willing to change this”.  Say it in the mirror for 5 minutes and with conviction and intensity.  Say it with heart.

Let go of the outcome and be willing to change your thoughts or actions about whatever you are want to change in your life.

Excuses are like mind viruses June 17, 2009

Our excuses are like mind viruses that can really quench the fire of our desires and dreams leaving us in a place of feeling stuck or in some kind of inertia about life. The important first step is to become aware of excuses and from there one can take steps to remove them, one excuse at a time.

Excuses get sealed into our minds at a very early age. According to Wayne Dyer in his latest book “Excuses begone”,  he states that excuses are mind viruses that have been transferred from other people to you such as your parents, teaches or via the TV.

Excuses become so much a part of us that they turn into reactionary habits of thinking that get to a point where we use words like, “I cant change because this is the way I am” or “this kind of thinking runs in the family” or ” I am too old, too young, too broke, to tired to make changes”

If you buy into these statement or beliefs then there is little hope you will ever go beyond them.

A decision has to be made when you can declare “If  I created these excuses then I have the power to erase them one at a time”. It is important to remember that you are in control of your thinking process and no matter how steep an excuse or addiction is you can erase it from your life as long as you have the willingness, awareness and patience to do so.

A simple exercise is to use this excuse busting formula..

When I…., then I will be able to…..

For example. When I am not suffering from fatigue then I will exercise regularly.

When I find the right job then I will be more peaceful and contented.

If you are reading this then a part of you knows that you have excuses that you are allowing to tow you around by the nose and its time to shake them off your memory banks.

This theme is quite extensive and will post more about this at a later date.

How can I set a simple goal? June 16, 2009

I have been working on goals for some years and this area is one of the most challenging areas for most people to get right. It is not just about getting clear on what they want it is also keeping the theme of the goal simple.

Most people start off focusing on what they don´t want. This is fine to a point, however, if you keep focusing on what you don´t want you will get more of the same. The key is to keep the focus on what you don´t want brief.

Brief could mean a few minutes, a few hours or a few days depending on your situation and the context. The point is not to dwell on what is wrong or what you have not got.  Instead switch to what you desire and what excites you. If there is no excitement then review what you want even if this will take you some soul searching time.

The other part to this is to get clear and keep the goal simple. For example..

“On or before 30th December 2009 I will have increased my internet earnings by $5000 a month and will have set up 10 passive income streams as well as invested in buying gold”.

The question you need to ask yourself is what is the focus of this goal? To me it has three elements which will only confuse your sub conscious and you will get nowhere with this goal even though your intentions are good.

For me the goal would feel better if I state:

On or before the 30th December, I will have generated an additional $5000 a month on the internet”

This goal is specific, with a date and I have  built in flexibility that the goal could be achieved before the 3oth December. The key here is that I am  focused on one theme – earning an extra $5000.

The Universe responds to simplicity and so I suggest that you keep it simple or as I term it the KIS (keep it simple) approach.
