Don´t believe everything you think February 23, 2008

On an average day we experience about 60,000 thoughts of which most of these thoughts are repetition thoughts of the days before and over 80% of these thoughts tend to be negative.
The issue for most of us is that we take advise from these thoughts and this can be a dangerous thing if we believe everything our mind sends our way. I recall a Buddhist monk giving a talk about this and he commented “never believe your thoughts”. He would suggest observation and being mindful of what you are thinking and really getting behind these thoughts.
For example, I recall giving a workshop to a group and a couple of the students did not partake in an excercise I asked the group to complete. I then made the assumption in my head that they were either bored or were judging me in some negative way. After the workshop these two people came up to me and sincerely thanked me for an excellent and eye opening course!
I made an assumption and that assumption got my thinking going down a negative path which I bought into. This happens to most of us every day and we have to really be aware to not to assume things, take things on face value, question if necessary and do not take things personally.
This is not to say all thoughts are a threat. Thoughts are powerful energy sources to create what we truly want in our lives. I am referring to the automatic thought process that randomly sends you thoughts based on judgements, assumptions and negative thinking.
Part of the attraction process of manifestation is to police these thoughts and instead choose thoughts that support your goals and dreams.
